300 RUM
When did the 300 rum become a standard cartridge?

Can existing 300 mags be reamed to fit 300 RUM? What about twist? 0 -
That depends on many different factors, one of the largest being the length of the cartridge. The 300 RUM has an OAL of 3.60 while the 300 Win Mag is only 3.34, so will the bolt travel and magazine length allow for the extra 0.30? 0 -
knobbycreek,
Unfortunately, this question requires that you be more specific as there are too many variations out there to cover adequately.
Generically though, because of the diameters and length of the .300 RUM, that reamer will clean up a typical .300 Win. Mag. chamber or even a .300 Weatherby but this one will depend upon the throat length.
The Remington M700 Long Action will handle the .300 RUM with magazine changes as will the Winchester M70 LA. Others will be on a case-by-case basis.
Tell us what you're after with which rifle and we'll be glad to help you out.

knobbycreek,
as has been stated, yes it can be done with a magazine change with the 700 and Model 70 long actions. The twist rate, should be the same, unless you are going to use extremely heavy/long bullets, over 240 grains. Then you will need a faster twist.
