american eagle luger serial numbers

Seen a american eagle luger dwm with sn 3x,xxx. Near as I can tell it was made between 1904-1906 but dont know for sure. Need info here.

    Serial number range you have given, appears to me to be way to high, for the 1904-6 time frame. If none of our folks can give you more specific information, you can post to the Luger Forum, they they have a specific board covering the early 1900/1906 contract models.

    The model 1906 American Eagle serial number range was from 26500-69000 so if this is a 4 inch 9MM with both grip and thumb safety then it is in the correct serial number range. The extractor should be marked loaded. and have GERMANY export stamp on the Front serial should also be on barrel. This would be a Fairly RARE model and bring good money in good condition.

    EDIT when you cycle the toggle to load the pistol the extractor when closed on a cartridge will move upward The extractor is on top very front of the Toggle/bolt. The extractor has a duel function a loaded chamber indicator and an extractor It will read Geladen if for German use but "Loaded" if it is original American Eagle model.

    EDIT IIOK if the barrel is 4&3/4 inch measure this by taking an UNLOADED pistol and a cleaning rod with the toggle closed install cleaning rod from the muzzle end. when it touches the breach face of the toggle. Mark the place at end of muzzle it should be 4.75 inches it should be in the same serial number range. 26500-69000 and they made between 7500 -8500 pistols like this the other information grip safety "GERMANY" marked on the front of frame and barrel serial the same as frame serial.

    Thanks guys. It is a 9 mm and 4 in barrel with the grip safty and thumb safty, not sure about the extracter, I don't know lugars very well. Can you tell me what I am looking for? Sorry for the slow response, I'm out of town alot because of this estate thing.

    EDIT #1, Unfortunately it's been bubbaed. Reblued, nickel plated, replacement grips & magazine base. Although it looks OK, this effectively destroys any collectors value

    EDIT #2, Here is the photo of the front of the frame showing the serial number area and country of origin.

    EDIT #3, I believe it would be worth more then $200/$400. Many folks just want to have a nice looking Luger for their collections, they aren't hard core collectors. In fact they wouldn't know a bubbaed Luger from a pimple on their butt. Just want something with a lot of eye appeal, to impress their friends. This 1906 would surely fill the bill in that respect, in spades.

    Well to my suprise when I found the bullets for the Luger they were 7.625 Parabellum, not the 9mm I thought. But the extracter does read "Loaded". So I guess this changes everything. Pics attached

    Thanks for loading a bigger pic. Yes, the grips might be replacements, they are a little loose. Not so sure about the re-blueing-the engravings are very crisp. The barrel does measure 4 3/4 in to the chamber. The sn is on the underside of the barrel along with "Germany" this would show up if I could figure out how to make the pic. bigger.

    unless there is chance that these photos have somehow been modified by "photo shop" or other program to try to make them look "'BETTER" a one in a thousand chance and those are actually real Ivory grips and magazine bottom. I would have to say someone took a $4000.00 pistol and turned it into a $200.00 Pistol reblueing, chrome plating trigger, and installing 69? plastic grips.[:(][:(!][V]

    the only photoshop here is over the sn. The grips are Genuine Plastic. All numbers match. Might beable to find the original grips in the old man's stuff. Will keep looking.
    Sad that some one tried to gild the lily and ended up killing it instead.
