Die scratching cases
My 30-30 die puts scratch lines on the side of the case. I've sprayed cleaner in it & blown it out. Do I need to run some kind of hone in there? It's a carbide die, Lee.

Never seen a 30/30 carbide die, figured they were just for straight wall pistol cartridges..
Anyways the burrs need to be CAREFULLY removed with a fine abrasive paper....0 -
A Lee carbide 30-30 die? I don't think that's correct. Steel dies like yours MUST have clean and lubed cases. They will either score the brass or the cases will stick if not.
You may have damaged the die with grit. You can try polishing the die, but it may not be possible to save it at this point. Try wrapping an old .45 bore brush with a patch rubbed with Flitz or JB Bore Paste. spin it with a drill or power screwdriver until the die gets quite warm in your hand. If that doesn't polish out the grit burrs, the die is toast. Lee will probably replace it at no charge if it is less than two years old.0 -
Heck, just call Lee and get a shipping order and send it back to them and let them figure it out. Their warranty is very good.[;)] 0 -
You guys are probably right that it isn't carbide. I know my other dies are. I'm at work & don't have right in front of me. Thhe die isright about 2 yrs old. I'll give Lee a call. Thanks 0 -

To avoid this problem in the future make sure your cases are clean before sizing, that will assure a sharp piece of dirt does not get embedded in the die wall causing the scratches.
Using the method suggested by Rocky above will work unless the die is too damaged to be saved. It is worth the effort before spending money on the mail to return your die to Lee.0 -
BTW, I polish ALL my steel sizer dies that way regardless. Flitz can't and doesn't remove any detectable amounts of steel, it just polishes. It also leaves an anti-rust compound behind. Very good stuff. 0
