Best bolt action 7.62x39?

That other question about the Ruger has me wondering about this.

What's the best bolt action rifle in 7.62x39 available in the USA, and why?

By "best" I probably mean "most accurate", but I'll take any opinions on this. I'm more interested in the "why" than stock answers asserting that this one is better than that one, etc.

    The CZ 527. The why. It has a very good trigger pull (important for accuracy) and you can set it for even a lighter pull.

    My CZ527 won't shoot worth crap! Maybe others have had better luck.

    EDIT: I've tried .308, .310, .311, & .312 bullets in mine. The only thing that shot 1/2 way decent was PMC soft point factory loads with groups averaging 2.27. I got a lot of misfires so I'm going to try a firing pin swap from my .223. I've tried 3 different scopes, and 7 different powders and the average group size, so far, is 5.66" with .311 Sierras grouping just under 10"! I've been reloading since 1958 so I'm not new at this. I got a second set of dies that I haven't tried yet to rule out a die defect. I don't usually have this kind of trouble getting a rifle to shoot. My other 527's (.204 & .223) shoot great. This one's a challenge. Who said only accurate rifles are interesting!

    Yes much better luck, especially with hand loading and the correct bullet diameter. It is a loud rifle due to short barrel.

    CZ527, Just make sure you're using quality .311" bullets and not using smaller American bullets. Some manufacturers use .308's because then they know they won't blow up a gun. Any good .3015"-.312" bullets will work as long as they are not heavier than 130 gr.

    Also, I would prefer the CZ527, but I wouldn't hesitate to take a Remington 799 if the chance came along either. The same thing applies in that you need good ammunition. There is tons of 7.62x39 ammo out there and I'm sure one of the criteria for it is that it doesn't shoot better than 4-5 MOA.

    Mine shoots 3/4 inch 5 shot groups off the bench at 100 yards. And use the .311 diameter bullets.

    My semi auto norinco ak does much better than 4 in. Much better. But anyway I used to own a ruger m77 mark ll in 300 win mag and the bolt was smooth and shoot 1 1/2 groups at 200 YDS with factory ammo. Sum people rag on Ruger- mabey they got a lemon like any manufacture can produce, but the four Rugers I have owned were fantastic. I still own the p89 dc and the redhawk, but I was very very stupid to sell the m77. The only thing I didn't like about it was the trigger, but the hammer forged barrel was great.

    My vote goes to the CZ 527 also. That is because they are available, and if you have one, you will want to shoot it, not keep it in the safe like the collectable Ruger 77MKII. Secondly, they do not take a back seat to any mainstream manufacturer's that are based here in the USA. Their quality and workmanship are incredible. Lastly, as previously noted, the use of the proper diameter bullets will help in the accuracy department. A 0.308" diameter bullet rattling down a 0.311" bore is not going to be conducive to good accuracy. Ruger buzzardizes it's bores, like the Mini-30.

    Check out the bore dia on any bolt action 7.62x39. CZ is correct for hand loading hunting bullets and reasonable accuracy with surplus mil ammo. It is one of the lightest rifles you can buy, 5lb. and yet in a caliber not to over recoil. It is a true control feed mini mauser. The scope mount is unique base but there are detachable as well as standard mounts avail. There is a magazine filler block avail from JP Calhoon (as well as scope mounts) that takes away the clip protrusion allowing comfortable carry and allows single fire. Only draw back is the rifle is loud. Excellent rifle for youth/woman/old timer or anyone needing a light rifle.
