Ithaca 37 Home Defense Shotgun Problem

I just bought this gun new in Feb. 2011. It locked up after shooting the 1st, I repeat, the 1st shell. The shell was a normal Federal 2 3/4 and not a magnum. I think this problem should have been found at the factory with a decent QC program.

Anyone else having problem with your new Ithaca 37?

  And then what did you do....did you clean and lube it before you started ???? Just asking.

  had one at one time, would jam w/slugs, cleaned polished no fix,sent it on its way

  Currently have 3 older 37's. Hmmm I've never had a failure or a jam. I'd be making a call or two.
  
  How did you get the case out? Is it still locked up??

  My 1965 locked up unexpectedly as you describe.
  After polishing, inspecting and lubing all parts it still locked up at random with field/target loads.
  Ithaca was still in business then and I took it up to them.
  Although it was clearly a manufacturing defect, they charged me $50
  for a five minute fix.
  The techie wouldn't say what he did.
