Remington 700 Xtreme Hunting Rifle
Purchased the new Remington 700 XHR in December. The bolt is sticky the last 1-1 1/2 while in battery.
Must ship back to Remington (all bolt issues)Went to UPS Store to ship- was told by young clerk "We don't ship any gun or gun parts" WTH!!
Any suggestions? I've not shipped a firearm before.

Unless the law have just changed, you as a private owner can send a firearm for repairs to the company without going thru a licensed FFL.
UPS should not stop you from doing that unless the company has decided to do it. I am a private owner and have sold some of my hunting rifle recentely. Not a problem with my shipper here. I use Fedex. The only thing is by law it has to be sent to an FFL dealer because I am selling it. Again in your case it is a repair or replace from the manufacture.
Would not suprise me if UPS does this because they are UNION and the feds have pushed to support them, and you know this administration wants to disarm us all. Now that is another issue.0 -
By UPS and Fed Ex rules, if you are not an FFL that has pick ups scheduled at your business, you have to go to their MAIN hubs, not their stores. Has nothing to do with federal laws. You may also go to the USPS post office and ship it.

or if you bought it from a store, make them mail it back to remington0 -
We have a ups retail store around here that ships long arms no problems. Speak to a manager at the store for clarity on policy. 0 -

YOU WERE TOLD WRONG. This is not a big deal, so do not participate in some clerk's hysteria, regarding your shipping a gun.
Make sure you package your gun securely, regardless of how you ship it. Each shipper may have packaging requirements, but I do not believe so...other than the obvious of packaging it securely and not shipping it with ammo, either loaded in the weapon or included in the package. REGARDLESS of how you ship, insure for the full value. Other folks on here who ship a lot of guns can offer packaging tips if you need them; I just know how I do it.
Unless there is some new UPS company restriction, UPS will ship your gun. If you went to the UPS terminal and got this no-ship-guns story, the guy you spoke to is misinformed or has his own little gun control agenda. If you are fixated on using UPS, go back and ask to speak to their terminal manager.
If you are trying to ship your gun through one of the UPS-affiliated PO Box stores, be it a Mom & Pop shop or a UPS-owned satellite shop, there may be some issues. Not sure of their rules, exactly, but UPS may require you go to their terminal to ship a gun.
FedEx will ship your gun. Go to your local FedEx terminal.
The US Postal Service will ship your gun (long guns only...handguns between FFL holders only, I believe). This may be the least expensive method, I do not know. Make sure you talk to the local supervisor or Postmaster if you experience problems, but you shouldn't if your weapon is securely packaged. I do not think you have to declare the contents, just answer the usual questions regarding hazardous substances...your gun is not hazardous.EDIT--EDIT--EDIT
Okay...it occurs to me now that you MAY be required to complete a special USPS form, but I don't know if that is for all guns or only handgus...you will have to ask.
By the way, It Is Legal to return a weapon to the manufacturer and receiving it back, personally, to your address and not having to go through a FFL holder.
Here's a thought. Call Remington and see if they will pay for your shipment. Ask them to send you a UPS Call Tag. Also ask them if they have any special shipping packaging instructions, etc. of their own.0 -
Thank you all for your responses. Rifle is gone and went via UPS..
Now, I can't wait to hear REMINGTON's excuses as to why the turn around time will go from 5weeks to months... I'm expecting it andissing out on Fall 2011 hunting season with my XHR.
We'll see.
