All colt model SAA large frame pistols have a hammer that has the firing pin early guns were cone shape and later guns had different contour. I don't know about the colt MODEL COWBOY which is a single action large frame revolver . The smaller 22 rimfire revolvers look like a SAA but are NOT a SAA they have a hammer with NO fireing pin . some models are call peacemaker don't be confused by a name.

The Cowboy had a transfer bar mechanism with frame mounted firing pin.

i wouldn't give 2 cents for a revolver with a transfer bar mechanism, i absolutely hate them and the NRA sponsored the transfer bar mechanism in the "anti-gun law of 1968"

    Addition to Perry Shooter..

Later model Colt large-frame SAA's had a firing pin that looked somewhat like the nipple on the end of a baby bottle.

They were also articulated (could move slightly) when handled. The movement was designed to be so at Colt, and is normal (for nipple shaped firing pins). Joe

This was done to allow use of a smaller diameter firing pin end and recoil shield with smaller hole, needed for modern high pressure ammo. The slight movement was necessary to provide alignment of the tighter clearance.

Years ago, I converted a late serial no. Bisley Model to .22 Hornet, and replaced original firing pin and recoil plate with the new style. Worked perfectly, including later when converted again to .357 (too late, the Hornet had already ruined my ear drums!)
