s/42 luger marking
buddy of mine just bought a mauser s/42 1937 and it has what looks like a flaming pot marking on it. does anybody have any info on the marking? almost looks like springfield flaming bomb but more in a pot shape, it is stamped on barrel, action, and frame. thanks
i have seen lots of the nazi marks and have a few in my own collection and this is not a nazi mark
could it be a spanish military proof mark
went to the luger forum and found the picture of the marking, but it did not say what it was for
how do i post a pic of the marking can not pull it off of my computer
looks like a large firure 8 with an extra line in the top circle

You might give the Luger Forum a try. They have a section on Luger proof marks that's accessible without becoming a forum member. It's in their reference section. 0 -
Hello just one book I have has over 70 different proof marks. For the most part . they are inspection marks as well as many lugers have unit markings. When a collector sees a luger he can go to a book like this and check to see if the marks are what they should be on this variation because the values of rare variations can some times be 20 times those of common models these different marks can tell if this pistol is legit or a fake put together pistol . However be aware there are people that sell FAKE punches to stamp Fake pistols. If you get a chance to take some detail close up pictures in focus of all marks we may be able to tell you if they look correct for this pistol very hard to tell if a pistol is ALL correct but if you see a mark that you know should NOT be there it will raise a BIG RED FLAG. 0 -
