Hi. What, if any are the differences in the cylinder locking bolt between the second and third generation colt SAA? Thanks.

From what little I know about these guns the 1st Generation and early 2nd Gen(about up to SER#39000sa)are of the finest quality.
I have read that the post 1965 guns were beginning to diminish in
quality and the decline continued through the years.
Can someone tell me how the quality of the current manufactured compares to the others?

Hello TITO and welcome . You state you are a Danish collector . Do you currently live in Denmark[?] In my opinion you have a Colt pistol made 1878 it may have started out as a 44-40 Colt Frontier Six Shooter and as this was the first year of the 44-40 with an etched barrel it would bring BIG $$ if in very good or better condition. I do think at a later date the gun was heavily buffed and refinished This will really hurt the value also different barrel and cylinder this will also hurt value. So in my opinion what you have is an interesting bit of Colt history . As with many guns 135 years old it would be very interesting if this old pistol could talk. These early frame guns are said to be only for Black Powder shells. so I would not shoot any HOT loads . I don't know your Pistol & Ammo laws but many American companies do make and sell so called COWBOY loads that would work if your pistol is in good condition and cylinder lines up and locks in place.
