    I am in the market for an original WWII carbine. Before I buy, I need to get an education. Can anyone recommend a book or two? Is there good info available on the net somewhere? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Let me be the first to:
    a. Welcome you the forum with the hope that you'll be around for a long time!, and,
    b. Tell you that folks will really need good pictures in order to give you a good answer.
    You can also go to the auction side and see what similar carbines have gone for in the past.
    Otherwise initial response might be, "500 to 2,000" depending, with best guess estimates narrowing in range the more info and pictures are provided. Condition, originality and correctness are all huge factors.
    That said,
    It's time to see what the folks who really know their carbines have to say. There are several, and I'm sure they'll be along shortly.

    I agree with the guys. Without photos, we can't help you.

    The M2 conversion kit & stock may be worth $5K if the kit is registered; if it is not registered, it is worth 5 years in federal prison.

    As Nmeyers said. The term is conversion kit, not conversation- since it converts the M1 Carbine to a fully automatic (machine gun) Possession of the kit is considered possession of a machinegun. Making the assumption that you are in the US, these were required to be registered over 40 years ago- no additional ones can be registered. 5 yrs, and I think the fine is now up to $250,000. If you are NOT in the US, depends on your laws where you are.

    Welcome to the Carbine Club, if you have a M2 conversion kit for your carbine, considering it legal, than you have a potbelly stock[xx(].

    Potbelly stocks were type 5 and made for the Korean War and not WWII. And were made specifically for the M2 carbine.

    Your carbines value depends on stock condition with all the cartouches in the right place(ordnance acceptance marks). Also if all the parts are mfg'd by inland it's more desirable or it's a mixed parts gun.

    Most rare carbines are one's that haven't been arsenal rebuilt and upgraded with newer parts.

    Values can start at 600.00 and go up.
