Is the latest Taurus 9mm worth it?

My questions is in regards to the latest semi-automatic Taurus 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol. Is it better than a Ruger; is it as good as a Beretta? I understand I retails for around $450.00.

    I don't know which Taurus is the "latest" and if you want a detailed answer to your question, you might specify the exact model.

    What I can say is that there are so many excellent tried-and-true service pistols available either used or new at the $450 price point (including Beretta, Glock, CZ-75, Ruger, and others) that personally I wouldn't even consider spending that much on a Taurus of any type, let alone one that is new to the market (and therefore untested).


    EDIT:
    The Taurus PT-92 isn't quite a "clone" of the current rendition of the Beretta 92 (there are some minor parts and design differences), but its derived from the same lineage, and is highly similar.

    In my opinion this is probably the best of the Taurus automatics. Taurus has been making these for a LONG time, and supposedly it started off making these on original Beretta tooling from a South American Beretta factory.

    Still, if you like this design, instead of buying a Taurus, I'd suggest just finding a nice used Beretta 92.

    These typically go for around $400-500 used and there are plenty of them out there, so I don't think you'd have a hard time finding a good one to fit your budget.

    If you buy a used Beretta for $450, if/when you sell it, you'll get at least $450 for it. If you buy a used Taurus for $450 you'd be looking at a resale value of $350 (or less).

    The PT-92. I understand several versions have popped up and that may be a factor.

    Not even comparable to Ruger, Beretta , Springfield, kahr etc.. Junk and if your life is in the balance go reliable and its NOT TAURUS..

    With the history of their latest models, are you sure you want to consider it? In the last decade they have several new models that have been junk heaps.

    I agree that buying a Taurus is not the way to go and for the reasons previously stated. The are, in my opinion, a poor choice for sport or for self defense.

    For $450.00, a used Glock, Beretta or another qualtiiy gun that were designed to have a service life of more rounds than probably 4 owners would put through them, would be a better deal for you, really.

    Your choice though.

    Taurus is nowhere near Ruger or Beretta, I would pass on Taurus, the quality, reliability and fit and finish are poor and sub standard to say the least, not to mention their customer service which is abysmal, like Charter Arms and their customer service.
    Now Ruger and Beretta make excellent firearms as well as
    Smith & Wesson, Colt, Springfield, Glock, etc...go search out what you want under one of those brands and look for the best price and avoid the Taurus.

    Having had 3 Tauri (3 too many, btw) I am now convinced that they use the same metal found in hot wheels cars.

    Step away from the Taurus.
