fix rifle magazine

Hi everyone...

I've a "replacement" magazine for my Savage 65M .22 WMR. The first shell feeds just fine. The first shell ejects just fine. However, no matter how fast or slow I work the bolt, the second shell won't pick up. It remains in the magazine and the bolt moves over the shell.

I know many of you know how to tweak a new or replacement magazine. Could y'all provide a complete synopsis of magazine/feed issues and the (hopefully simple and extremely cheap) ways to tweak the magazine to feed properly?

    If it is new, send it back to the manufacturer with a detailed explanation of the problem.

    If you want to try yourself...Does the follower move freely?
    It sounds like something isn't working correctly and allowing the shell to move up high enough for the bolt to pick it up.

    Almost all Clip style Magazines require a certain amount of fitting , I call it tuning . Sounds to me like you need to open up the lips on the rear of the magazine , so the cartridge will ride a little higher and the bolt can pick it up . The only reason the first one goes is because it has max spring tension on it which pushes against the lips , which opens the lips just enough to pick up the first round from a full clip . I use a vice with wooden jaws to do this , but a carefully applied pair of pliers . Move both sides equally . If the bolt hits the lips you may have gone too far , or you need to file the lips just a tad , so the bolt will clear . Sending the clip back to the manufacturer will only net you another just like it , because they dont have your rifle to fit it to . It's not Rocket science . Try not to go so far that you have to bend the lips back , as this will distort the metal . You can do it , piece of Cake , Any questions PM me ! Mike
