AR15 barrel to receiver torque additional question
I didn't want to hijack a previous thread so I started a new one. In the previous thread the OP asked what the proper torque for barrel to receiver was and the responses were 30-35 FT/LBS. I did an AR assembly from scratch about a year ago using an assembly guide from {Elsewhere} In this guide, it shows torque at 80FT/LBS. My question is, by using this setting, have I done damage to the upper receiver or barrel nut? Is the gun safe to shoot ( I haven't yet) or should I disassemble it and have it checked out. If it matters, the upper is a DPMS high rise and the barrel is a DPMS 24" SS 1:8 twist.

I think it says"up to 80 ft/lbs" to align the gas tube. I wouldn't remove it if it's that tight unless you have to. Removing and retightening might be worse than just leaving it as is. 0 -

That is what the Army TM calls for. A max of 80 ft/lbs. It is rare that I get over 50-55 before it is lined up correctly.0 -
like the previous post mentioned, MIN. 35 ft./lbs. then to the next hole for the gas tube (MAX. 80 ft./lbs.) 0 -

BTW, I also recommend using 'Wet Torque' for these. It makes it easier to get it nice and tight without galling the threads.0 -
Look at the barrel nut wrench. The torque wrench is back from the head. The torque is going to be more that the wrench is set for.
We had one so tight that the alignment pin sheared off the barrel when the nut broke loose.0
