Bore out a new barrel

    3" shells may be too long to cycle through the action properly.

    i tried a 3inch barrel; it ok for the 2 3/4 but not the 3in; can not eject them

    You have to open up the ejection port as well.

    to eject a FIRED shell you need to lenghten the ejector port (to the front). and install a 3" ejector.

    Agree with prior. Get a gun sized for it or reload custom 2 3/4" shells for better performance.

    I concur with the two previous posters ! There are 3" Model 12s out there if you must have a 12 , or just upgrade to a more modern gun designed to do what you want it to !

    Thanks for the replies so far everyone, however I was unclear. Sorry. The original barrel was marked as 3". I could not find a 3", so I bought a 2 3/4" and want to have a machine shop/gunsmith drill it to accept an opened 3" shell. More thoughts?

    what you want done is possible (see above) but you also must match the 'chamber ring' to the new barrel. this is a short piece or steel in front of the bolt that forms the 1st 1/4" of the chamber and must match the rest of the chamber exactly.
