H&R Hammerless
Question for Bill Goforth and others:
Is a third model Iver Johnson topbreak hammerless Safety Automatic .22 a better built gun than my H&R second model topbreak Bicycle hammerless .22 revolver (which you helped me with in an earlier post) ? You've mentioned in other posts that the third model (aka New Model ?) Iver Johnson topbreaks have coil springs, as well as frames made of Validum steel. Do they also have a smoother action,lighter trigger pull, or other more desirable features, compared to the second model H&R hammerless ? I know that they both have positive cylinder stop features. And they are about the same size and weight.

I have an H&R hammerless pistol in a 5 shot 38. I can't figure how the insides go back together. The trigger, hammer and shear, I believe I have right. I can't figure out how to make the cylinder revolve, i khow what should happen but the spring on the arm confuses me. I cant figure out where the spring goes. There is also a small sping, I have no clue what it does. Any help would be great.

You have some parts that don't belong:
The top left one is the single action sear from a 'hammer' model, and the part below it is the cylinder catch from a hammer model. (See parts 28 and 24: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=7946)

The two upper left with attached springs are both the lever or hand that turns the cylinder, and appear to be the replacement for part 22 sold by Numrich. (See schematic page 2: I don't understand how they work as spring appears to be on wrong side. The original looks like parts 22-23 in schematic, which uses a V-spring on back side, that works against the diagonal groove in the lifter)
The small coil spring must be for the rebounder sear (that you call the 'shear'), part 28 (schematic doesn't show one but Numrich does, part 29)0 -
I found out today that it is a 4th gen. large frame hammerless. I thought that to begin with, I ordered the lever with the wire spring on it from gunpartscorp, but it is not the right one. Does anyone out there have the right lever and lever spring? 0 -
Once you figure out what parts are what trying to get that trigger loop and parts back into the frame is a task. I did the same thing you are doing and even with a book I found it hard to get the revolver back together. You can go to a local gun store and if the have a book that is not in wrap you may be able to read and look at the pictures to get a good idea how to proceed. The book I purchased was not a very good resource and was not cheap.
