1911 Long Slide
Was thinking about getting a new 1911 and saw a Springfield with th long slide that looked nice. Just wondering if longslides are more accurate than regular size slides?

generally long slide and or long barrel firearms have longer sight radius and can be more accurate due this fact. a longer sight radius is easier for most folks to line up on target and to do so repeatedly . short barrels or slides do not usually detract from a firearm's intrinsic accuracy, only the users ability to use this shorter sighting setup does. 0 -
It goes with out saying that the long slide and barrel add substantial extra weight. Along with the longer sighting plane, this extra weigh help some folks dampen recoil which helps them accuracy wise, specially in rapid fire.
I would try to fire a long slide pistol before buying one though. My personal experience with pistols with heavy barrels, is once they go over 44 ozs. weight wise, they are very difficult to hold for long shot strings.0 -

They're not more intrinsically accurate.
In other words, if you locked the gun into a machine rest, it shouldn't be any more accurate than an otherwise similar gun with a shorter barrel.
The most important factors in determining accuracy in your pistol are the slide/barrel lockup, the barrel-bushing fit, and the quality of the barrel itself.
Long-slide 1911s buy you a few things:
a. Longer SIGHT RADIUS, which can make it easier to AIM the gun. This is the main reason why people use these guns. Its not that the gun itself is any more accurate, its just that you'll be able to line up the sights more precisely, and therefore shoot it more accurately.
Note also that some experienced shooters do NOT like a longer sight radius, because it also increases the perception sight picture "wobble" which can be disconcerting.
b. About 60 fps more velocity with standard 230 grain ball ammo. Doesn't hurt, but IMO not much to talk about either.
c. More barrel weight slightly reduces muzzle flip, which can help controlling the gun in rapid fire.
More weight at the barrel also reduces muzzle "wobble" which can help you keep your sights on target during slow fire. Note that you can gain a similar effect by weighting the front of a standard gun in other ways.
d. They look cool. AMT longslide:
e. Longslide will make it harder to carry/conceal the gun, and can limit the variety of holsters that will fit the gun.0 -
Here is my Springfield longslide. Of my pistosl, it gets shot the most because it is the most accurate, with or without the red dot and I can accurately hit the 10 ring at 25 yards.
This is the ONE gun I will never sell.0
