value of weaver scope

I seen a weaver scope today in a gun shop. It is a fixed 15 power with AO. My guess it is a classic model. The scope looks perfect.... almost. There are no ring marks, no scratches, nothing except the slightest ding on the objective bell. Not enough to have caused any damage to the glass, however, it's enough to prevent the mounting of a sunshade, should one be wanted. The guy said he would take $200 for it because of the ding. Is that too much, about right, or a good deal. Thanks.

    I would pass on it...you should be able to get a 4-16x Classic, new for around $300.00. I would say that the person is trying to make 200%, or they got screwed over, and is trying to pass it on.

    I didn't even see a fixed power scope in one of their distributor's catalogs.

    I agree PASS .The FIXED higher powers scopes are IMHO only good for Target shooting NOT hunting because of the limited field of view at short distance. Along with this we now have many scopes with the Third Turret used to adjust distance focus or even Focus on the Eye Piece. Much better system to use just like a Bag phone compared to a Smart Phone. Vintage scopes are OK for looks on a vintage rifle. But IMHO modern scopes have advantages never thought of 20 years ago.

    The advances in the technology that goes into rifle scopes these days is awesome. IMO, a $200 scope, name brand, is of beter quality and abilities then the best scopes, for any price, offered even ten years ago. The only reason, IMO, to buy an older scope is if you are out to stock a classic rifle with a period correct optic, otherwise buy new.

    Dokey, I believe it to be a KT 15. It is made in Japan. It is a matte finished scope. When I said I believed it to be a Classic, I may have confused some people. It is not a classic in the sense that it was made in El Paso and has a steel tube, but rather one of the new models named classic. As far as a variable, I did just buy a very gently used Weaver Classic, 4-16 x 42, which was only mounted on a .22 and shot less than 100 rounds. Owned by an 80 year old man. I paid $249 for it, which also included box, all papers, warranty card unfilled out, and in near perfect condition. It will be mounted on my Ruger 77 Hawkeye in 257 Roberts. I'm in Texas playing Army for a week, and it should be home when I get there. Should be a dandy step-up from the crappy simmons that's on it now. I thought if the scope was worth getting, I would throw it on my 6.5 Rem Mag or 300 RCM and use it for load development. Thanks for the replies.
