resale value of a smith with a police logo on it

I found a new semi auto smith with a police department logo on it. How does having the logo on it effect resale price should I ever decide to sell it?

    I have found it depends upon:
    1) the model/revision of the gun
    2) the police dept
    3) condition of the gun & accessories
    4) quantity in circulation
    5) luck

    In other words, there's no standard.

    EDIT: CP is correct. In the case of your gun, it would depend upon the 6 digit product code printed on the box label.

    EDIT: It could be a "police trade-in" & still be "NIB". Sometimes a PD will buy a batch of guns, & never issue some (or all) of them before deciding to switch to another model. Or, it could be an overrun; S&W always makes a few extra guns for LE/export special orders, just in case they are needed. After a year or two, they sell the overrun guns to a distributor at a greatly discounted price. PD marked guns, especially older revolvers, may be worth more if they have a special revision number, or a desirable feature not available on the standard model.

    That would lower its value. It is a police trade in, so who knows how many rounds are thru it. Its in 40 S&W, while popular, many PD's and LE are going away from it in favor of the 45. Lastly, S&W does not make those 3 generations DA/SA auto's anymore. Unless it is in NIB condition, you are not getting a deal.

    Specially marked guns may generally be worth less, but they can bring a premium if you find a buyer with a special interest in the marking.

    If I had an agency marked gun that's no longer issued - especially if it were unfired/NIB - I'd advertise it through that agency's association.
