    Yes that should do it as long as it was not a prohibited weapon on californias list and then maybe a copy of his registration of it would do. Make sure your ffl dealer will except just a copy of his D/L but he should and there is no law against it. Some FFL dealers like to play GOD and demand an ffl but by law it is not necessary but only in a few states who demand it.

    It doesn't matter if the rifle is a banned model in Cal. Cal laws only pertain to guns coming into the state or possessed in Cal. If the seller in Cal is selling an AK47 to an out of state buyer, Cal would likely be happy the gun is leaving.
