    Yes, but his name would not have been Sterling. If there's a crown at top of the ELG in oval, it was made after 1892.

    OK, we're close, my book says 1893 for the definitive proof. but I can't find anything that says the builders name CANNOT be Sterling.

    The Belgian "cottage industry" liked to use English sounding names on their exports. I've also seen H. J. Sterling listed as a brand name used by Crescent Firearms Co. who may have imported the barrels only, or marketed the whole gun.
