6 inch Barrel

Hello,

I recently purchase a 9mm barrel that is 6 inches in total length. It is excellent conditon and was on GunBroker # 21092276. The pictures there are excellent.

My question is this, there is a flat spot or land on the top of the collar where the barrel will screw into the slide. This appears to have been done during mfg. The flat part is in line with the front sight ramp. I haven't seen this on a barrel before. At first I thought perhaps this was a artillery barrel that had been reduced in length, however I haven't seen this land on any artillery barrels.
The seller told me this was how it was when he acquired it and didn't know what type of pistol it might have been made for or removed from.
Can someone id this barrel?

    Forgot to mention this is for a P08 pistol.

    Many different Luger barrels have been manufactured over the years, both military, commercial and aftermarket. Without markings would be very difficult to identify.

    Sounds like artillery barrel where the flat provides clearance for the rear sight.
    You say the barrel is six inches and has been shortened.
    That doesn't compute.

    I have read something about that little flat on the barrel shoulder somewhere, but my books are gone and I cannot remember the details.

    Thanks for the reply. This barrel, you can see the picture in a previous reply, does not appear to have the raised front sight ramp. The barrel appears to be original, that is it wasn't cut down to this length. My thoughts are that it was taken from a commercial model pistol for some reason. The bore is bright and show no evidence of wear. There are no marks whatsoever on this barrel. It id just curious that there would be this flat area on the collar. As I said the flat appears to have been done at time on mfg. I don't think this is a Navy barrel because of the low profile of the front sight.

    Hi,

    Upon further checking I have determined this barrel was not cut down as the front sight collar is consistant with mfg. The sight ramp is low profile which I think elimanates the possibility that it is a Navy take off. There are no marks on the barrel.
