Remington 597 Ammo .22LR

Hi guys. I have a .22LR Remington 597 w/factory scope package coming in this Friday at bass pro shop and four gen 3 magazines coming to me from Midway USA. I hear the 597 likes high velocity ammo. What is the best ammo I can use in it for accuracy?

    Your going to have to try all kinds to find out what she likes.. The 597's are tempermental so keep it very clean.. I would recommend buying a few boxes of CCI, Federal and Winchester .. I would also recommend staying away from lead bullets et al Thunderbolt's..

    Fortunately .22LR ammo is cheap enough that this shouldn't be a problem.

    My experience has been that most guns do OK with the 40 grain plain lead "target" style bullets from CCI and Federal. The round nose ensures good feeding, and the heavy weight bullet promotes good cycling.

    But yeah, ultimately you're going to have to see what works in your particular gun. Even different guns of the same exact make and model can have different ammo preferences.

    As the other guys have stated, anytime you buy a new .22 you have to find the ammo it wants to shoot. The 597 is a bit more picky but I haven't seen one yet that didn't like CCI Stingers, give those a try along with the Winchester Super X HV.

    Its been awhile since I played with a 597 but I found the best thing to do with (her) was to trade that headache away! (way away!)

    I've heard about the recalls, and bad feeding. Suposedly that has all been taken care of. They say it should feed fine with the updated 3rd generation magazines. I'll take it to the range and let you guys know how it went.

    Kinda gives one a warm fuzzy feeling, doesn't it? They put their junk on the market before the first generation was right, and then did it again with the second generation. What makes one think they could get it right with the 3rd? The whole 597 line was/is, nothing but a failed attempt to gain market share from the Ruger 10-22, and Marlin 60.

    Really, I would leave that right at Bass Pro, and bring home a 10-22. There is so much more you can do with them anyway, and very rarely are they unreliable with anything.

    In just about every 22LR I own, I use the Federal bulk pack of 550 copper plated 38 grain hollow points. In my Browning Buckmark Varmint, and A-Bolt 22 Medallion, they shoot better than even the Federal Ultra Match, that was used to win the Olympics with, and cost over $10.00/box of 50, 15 years ago.

    Bought some of the Winchester 555 and 333 bulk boxes. Feed ok in my Marlins and Savage. But alot of duds so I stopped buying them.

    AGREE 100%%%% we have sent more of these junk heaps back to Remington.. I wont buy any now if they come in with them..

    That's all I shoot any more. It's the best of the bulk pack promotional stuff. Head and shoulders above the Remington and Federal bulk pack ammo. If you want to go with the best ammo though, use CCI Mini Mags it's a bit more spendy, but worth it.
