Removing rust spots, again
Hi, Experts. A while back I sought some advice on removing light pitting (rust spots) from a Colt I recently purchased. I got lots of replies. Like a dummy I did not print them out. I know at least two replies suggested using something with a name like "Kroil" or a word similar. I just went to the local hardware store and they never eard of it, so I gess I rememered wrong. Any advice on removing rust spots? Anybody recognize the term Kroil? Thanks (again) Jim

After a few days of soaking in Kroil or other good penetrating oil, (auto trans fluid also works) scrape with the open mouth of a brass cartridge case.
Bronze wool (Brownells) can be used for larger surfaces like actions or barrels.
If it looks dry under the rust, repeat oiling and scraping until you get to clean metal or bluing.
Bluing wont be harmed.
The brass staining comes off with oil.
If you're lucky you'll get away with it and find no pitting.
Kroil is pretty smelly so do it outside to keep peace with the wife.0
