Walther PPK/S

does anyone have any experience with the walther PPK series of pistols. i am considering bying a slightly used SS PPK in 380 auto as a CCW.

it is 390 and change at a local shop. and appears to have been rarely fired or quite well taken care of. (was told it was braught in by an older gentalman)

is 390$ a good price? and is this a good pistole for CCW.

any general experience would help as well (accuracy, reliability etc.)

    I'm very irritated about this gun.I bought one at Gander Mtn. on Oct. 23rd. I went to the range the next day and found out it didn't work. The sales guy at the range told me there had been a national re-call in Jan. for this gun. I went back to GM and they gave me a full refund. Then I went back to the range and discovered they had one in stock, so of course I bought it. I must be the dumbest noob ever. Any way I started shooting it right away and it quickly became apparent that this gun was not functioning properly. It just wouldn't load a round in the chamber. So the gunsmith (?) took in in the back after doing something, gave it back to me and said "you just need to put a few rounds through it". (I've discovered that this phrase is used every time the "EXPERT" you're talking to doesn't know what's going on.)
    I went back to the range again and the same problems showed up. After some back & forth activities with the gunsmith & the sales guy, they decided to send it back to S&W for "Warranty work" which is what he wrote on the job order.
    First of all there is no warranty so what the he-- is going on.
    During the process of breaking it in I put 500 rounds min through it and for accuracy I put Crimson Trace laser grips on it.
    I'm kind of a nut when it comes to keeping records of expenses and today I went through all receipts for items directly associated with this gun and the totalis $1,283.69. That includes the gun, ammo, laser grips. I couldnt find the receipt for my Galco holster and that was about $80.
    I wrote a letter to the President of S&W Firearms, James Debny. What do you guys think the chances are for a full refumd?

    I'm pretty upset because the guys in the gunshop are beginning to show their lack of knowledge and talent regarding guns. Doo any of you experience this type of attitude?

    If it's German-made, I'm surprised. If it's S&W made, I'm not.

    You might want to try a new slide spring, available from Brownells.

    Also, these guns were designed for European ammo, which tends to be hotter than US-made ammo. What brands did you use?

    I must agree with Dano on this one. You should never have to break a gun in. I have had the misfortune of purchasing 2 S&W PPK/S pistols and have had bad results, (same as you described) with both. Never had a problem with the Interarms imports.
    Forgot to add the part I will disagree with Dano about is the purchase of a Beretta.
    Buy a SIG.

    Dump it and get a German-made one. I've had mine since 1977 and it has never failed me.

    You might consider a CZ-50/CZ-70, if a .32 ACP is acceptable to you. They are very similar in size and well made. Mine is very dependable. There should be several on the auction side.

    Even my german make PPK/S did much better with a ramp polish.

    Well, I own a Beretta and a Sig and like them both. My currect carry gun is a S%W CS40 which I also like very much. I was looking for something smaller as the CS40 is just too heavy for my IWB holster. The PPK/S is very accurate and easy to carry plus I got a very good deal on it (no jokes or jibes about why the good deal please). So, short of getting rid of it and buying something else, what can be done to improve the feed? Thanks.

    Also, I hate to sound dumber than I already am but how do you insert a picture in these posts?

    Never had a problem with my PPK/S from Smith, but will say have not shot more than 50-100 rounds.
