Gun Safe
I'm looking into getting a gun safe with fire protection. Only thing is I'm kinda stupid on this subject. I looked on line and they all seem about the same to me. My price range is gonna be around $500.00 and I'm thinking 10 to 12 guns should be plenty big enough. Any opinions or info would be greatly appreciated.

just remember you will not get 24 guns in a 24 gun safe and they fill up quickly and not necessarily with just guns 5 years from now you may be saying I wish I had got the 36 gun model 0 -
Just remember, most safes are great until a disaster occurs (fire or burglary); that's when you know if your got what you thought you paid for! Most gun safes will provide a nice standup box to put your firearms and important documents in, some with better padding than others, but if the unthinkable happens will you still have them.
My comments are general in nature as they pertain to gun safes and I admittedly do not know anything about Cannon safes. Truthfully, 30 minutes isn't a very long time in an intense fire. The better the protection the higher the cost; so ultimately "only you can decide just how much protection you want to buy"!0 -
I used to work with the safe industry and have been away for the last 10 years. RSC is a classification I'm not familiar with but just looking on the net it appears to stand for Residential Security Container. You should probably look that up and see exactly what it means in terms of protection.
The old UL system of burglary designations were TL-15 and TL-30. TL was for time lag and 15 and 30 were the minutes it would take to defeat the safe using hand tools. The UL technicians were pretty good at getting into a safe, considerably better than the neighbors kids or someone looking for an easy score.
I don't know anything about Cannon but consider the following. You need to have as much protection as you can afford. You should look at the thickness of the steel used in the walls and door not just the apparent thickness because of insulating material. There should be hard plates protecting the lock and plenty of locking bolts in the door. Big, thick and heavy is the way to go.
Check in you area and see how many houses have had breakins and how many have had serious fires. You may want pick a safe that is best fits your need.
Also, a safe is just a device to buy time. Any "residential" safe is not as secure as you think it is. Spend some of your money on an alarm system. The most likely problem your going to have is burglary and no one is going to stick around after tripping a monitored burglary and fire alarm system. It's best to have layered security. Hlouie0 -
I've had a Treadlock for 7 yrs. I like it very much, but I do wish it was bigger... All my ammo won't fit... Plus my wife has claimed a portion of it . If u have a crawl space-bolt it down with carriage bolts. If u have a concrete floor then use anchor bolts. I don't know alot a bout safes, but think about how hard the one ur lookin at would be to break into. Also 30 min. Isn't very long... How much more is the 1 hr one? Once u get a decent safe- you'll wonder how u ever got along without it. 0 -
