Lefever SxS metal finish question

What is the proper metal finish for a 1902 built Lefever I (or DS)grade SxS? I have seen many of these guns all blued and mine seems to be that way, but a lot of it is very worn. Are ALL parts to be blued?

    Hello if this is a Lefever That is a side lock made in Syracuse N.Y. Then all I can say is mine had Color case hardened Frame. . Later Lefever Box Lock guns many marked Nitro Special were blued frame.

    I agree w/PS, my 16ga Nitro Special seemed to have had a blued finish at some point, but now it's more of a brown.. looks almost case-colored due to age and wear. Luckily the bore is bright. It's an oldie, handed down from grandpa after many years of use in humid areas so it's certainly a shooter, not a collector.

    Your Lefever is not a side lock shotgun. It is a box lock with side plates. The finish on the receiver would have been color casehardened. The top-snap lever likely was rust blued but could also have been case colored. The triggers and trigger guard would have been rust blued or carbona blued, not sure. The forend iron case colored. Barrels rust-blued. Pins and screws rust blued.
