Colt Lightning
I am preparing to do an action job on an old Colt Lightning revolver in 38 caliber. Does anyone know a good source for old parts I may need along the way? I know they are becomming harder to find.

I have recently acquired a rifle about which I know very little.It appears to be a Colt Lightning in .32. It is pump action with a tubular magazine and an octagonal barrel. Anyone have an idea when it was made (ser#440XX)? What is it worth? Thanks. 0 -
Caliber should be marked on breech end of barrel, left side. If not, it may have been rebarreled, or the marking polished off. Clear photos are needed to determine condition and model, but Flayderman lists value for the standard model large frame with 28" octagon or round barrel and full magazine, from $950 Very Good to $3750 Excellent.
Made 1887-1894, serials 1 to 6496 so yours is a pretty late one.0 -
Hello Colt made 3 types of Lightning Rifles We know yours is not the small frame as that was in 22 Rim-Fire only the next is Medium frame that came in 32-20 38/40 and 44/40 The large frame came in 38-56-265, 40-60-300 ,45-65-300 45-85-285 ,50-90-300 you should have caliber markings on the barrel . You may be able to use a 45/70 in the 45 caliber large frame. But I would get others opinion and load this rifle with light loads. also be aware there is a part that wears that makes these rifles UNSAFE in my opinion to shoot. If you can pick up the rifle and cycle/pump the action so far so good BUT withe hammer now cocked you can pump it again with the hammer already cocked then you have a worn part and stand the chance of the action NOT being Locked when you fire a cartridge. It must be rebarreled because I also have one in 32-40 and that is clearly stamped on it. Thanks for the help guys 0
