Walther PPK (S&W vs Interarms) question?

OK, so what exactly are the differences between S&W and interamrs PPK's and what is the RECALL I keep seeing reference to????

also, what is a real world value for a stainless Interarms PPK NIB??

I see people asking rediculous prices, and the auctions with bids seem to get "real" around a start of $400

    Get a German-made Walther if you want one. I've had for over 30 years and it's a great gun. The S&W's have an "iffy" reputation regarding quality and performance.

    I believe the recall involved the gun accidentally firing when the decocker was engaged! [:0]

    I am trying to value this thing for a friend so I can help him, to sell it. It is an Interarms NIB stainless.

    He should be able to get $500 for it, maybe more if all is really NIB and complete. The caliber may matter to some and influence the price. What caliber is it?

    The recall is for S&W guns of a certain serial number range, not applicable to your Interarms.

    Of all the PPK's, and PPK/S's out there, the Interarms were the poorest of the bunch. If you can get $500.00 for it, take it and run. Personally, I would start an auction for it if it were mine, and start it low...like 199.99, and let the market take care of it. I would make sure the advertisement stuck out well...like even in the featured list.

    Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson's Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.

    DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT INVOLVED:
    This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002, until February 3, 2009. The Serial Numbers of the pistol subject to this recall are as follows:

    BAB 0010-BAB 9999
    BAC 0000-BAC 9999
    BAD 0000-BAD 9999
    LTD 0000-LTD 0499
    PPK 0001-PPK 1500
    BAE 0000-BAE 9999
    BAF 0000-BAF 9999
    WLE 0001-WLE 0459
    BAH 0000-BAH 9999
    BAJ 0000-BAJ 9999

    REMEDY/ACTION TO BE TAKEN:
    STOP USING YOUR PISTOL AND RETURN IT TO SMITH & WESSON AT ONCE.

    Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential for causing injury, and we ask that you stop using your pistol immediately.

    To facilitate the repair of your pistol, please contact Smith & Wesson's customer service department to receive instructions for the return of your pistol to Smith & Wesson.

    When you return your pistol to Smith & Wesson, we will replace the existing hammer block feature with a new part at no cost to you. Your firearm will be returned as quickly and efficiently as possible.
    VERIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION:
    When your pistol is returned, you should note a punch dot which appears at the back of the frame. See the photograph below.

    I disagree. I've ACTUALLY carried an Interarms stainless PPk for over 18 years and shoot it at least once a week without cleaning. It has never failed to function. While I wouldn't have a S&W PPk around me, the Interarms weapons are very serviceable.

    Is your observation based on you owning and carrying one?

    Yes it is based on one I did own. PPK/S...could not even get it to feed ball ammo. Tried new magazines, and eventually ended up getting rid of it, after returning it to them twice, and still the same thing. Even tried different shooters, to make sure I was not limp wristing it because of my big paws. You couldn't pay me to carry James Bond's gun to protect/defend myself with. It's a wonder he didn't get his A$$ shot off.

    Picky, picky, picky ......[;)]

    I have an Interarms blued and it fuctions just fine, I tend to use FMJ in it.

    Regarding differences, on the blued version the Smith has a less polished finish and more "matte" type on some areas compared to the Interarms, depending on when bought they changed the tang a bit to avoid bite. Not basing it on any one sample, from what I've read and seen with other owners there doesn't seem to be any real difference in function or reliability. From what I've seen the Interarms seem to go between $400.00 to $500.00. Figure at the low price it would go quick, at 5 it would take a while but still sell.

    recently bought an interarms ss 380 ppk at a local pawn shop, looked new but no box or papers. $400 out the door. very, very pleased with its reliability and accuracy. heard a lot of bad things about the smith but have never tried one. if the ppk is the type of pistol you are looking for i do recommend the interarms.

    thanks gents. I think I have a number we can start with to help him move it. It is one of his late FIL's collection.
