barrel sanding

I removed the blue from an old shotgun barrel and sanded the crap out of it. It looks pretty good, but I am wondering what I need to do next. I would like to reblue at some point. If that is not a possibility, I can get a new barrel for this gun for 20.00. That is probably why I did it in the 1st place...Anyway-Any suggestions on my next step?

  Sanding a barrel to remove finish is only the first step. The barrel will require polishing to obtain a half way decent bluing job. Even a new barrel will require polishing before it is blued. Bluing is not paint and will not cover up a poor metal finish.

  If it is scratched beyond all polishing, consider parkerizing.

  so....now I need to polish the crap out of it? Thats fine. I have time. I did buy this as a project gun. I just want to salvage if I can. I do like the idea of parkerizing as well! But first I will polish!!!

  A rough blasted finnish works beter if you're parkerizing....

  Double your fun get the new one and keep playing around with the project barrel. A good reason to get away from the spouse.

  Use one of the spray and bake finishes. Buy the new barrel for a spare.

  I agree with Thunderbolt, save yourself alot of work,buy the new barrel and then try a spray/bake finish. I have a finish like it and it's very durable and looks good.
