7 Rem to 7 STW

I know that the case lenght is 0.350 longer in the STW case (8mm rem mag), than the Rem. mag. What other issues will I have to deal with to rechamber? Mag. box etc? In this case I'm looking at a Browning A-Bolt in 7 Rem Mag. THX HAWKSHAW

    Don't know about the browning but my Remington 700 magnum needed nothing as far as magazine well. If you need dies and some brass let me know.

    Don't do it with a Browning A-Bolt, or X-Bolt, unless you don't mind owning a single shot. Their magazines are short as it is, and I don't believe the magazine would have room for the case, let alone the case and bullet.

    I did the 7mmMag to 7mmSTW conversion on my Winchester M70 classic. After converting the chamber I had to change out the bolt stop and change the sheet metal magwell and that was it. Then I came up with a classic 375H&H barrel and now I have this 26" 7mmSTW barrel to find and action for. Oh well, I'll pick up another action one of these days....

    I had a browning bar, it was accurate- but after each hunt I hated gettin my bullets (black hills gold barns triple shock) the mag well was short and made it tough not to scar the heads

    I'm on the run again but I wanted to add a couple of thoughts to your process.

    Given standard loads for a heavier bullet in the 7mm range, you will probably realize about a 50 FPS gain given a 26" barrel for both cartridges. If you reload, then you could test some V V N-570 powder with 160 grain bullets to get an increase in the difference. I did. Rarely do I not support a re-chamber effort unless the net gain is insufficient to warrant the cost. But a reason of just wanting a cartridge is also sufficient for me also.

    The Browning A-Bolt and A-Bolt II are available in .300 RUM and .375 H&H so there are magazines available for the longer H&H based cartridges such as the 7mm STW. While they may be at SAAMI minimum for length, they still have to work for these cartridges. I don't have any of these in the vault at this time so I can't measure but I suggest going to a shop or store to see if they have a longer magazine rifle available for you to measure.

    Personally, given the chosen platform, this would be one I'd skip...

    i would just go with rem action. no problems. and a better rifle... just my opinion
