Springfield 1903 Mark I
I have a Springfield 1903 Mark I that has the slot milled on the left side for the Pederson Device. Does this make the gun worth more?

No, and likely puts it way down the foodchain as far as '03's go. It was a loser of an adaptation (although the french used the little round as the basis for the 32 French Long) and was scraped waaaay too late to avoid the alteration of a poophouse full of otherwise fully functional rifles. Now if you actually had the Pedersen device that goes into the slot, you could retire earlier! 0 -
My Mk I works as well as any other 1903 (except, as one writer noted during the days when one was allowed to sporterize a surplus rifle, there is a hole in the action where you would attach a side mount scope base.) Whee.
And it must be worth a lot of money, they only made 65,000 of them. I doubt that alone will impress a collector, but if yours even has the Pedersen cutoff and sear, that will draw some attention. Most of them were replaced with standard parts after the devices themselves were scrapped.0 -
I believe that if your rifle is in ORIGINAL condition, it would have substantial value, as few survived rebuild by the military.

"likely puts it way down the foodchain as far as '03's go".........well, I have to disagree with this. the Mark-1's are all high number so are very 'shootable', also they will bring more at auction even if the cut-off and trigger have been replaced. 0 -
Sorry Mike, going off what the retail situation was on these in recent years locally. They were selling $200 to $300 cheaper around here when I was in the market for a RI '03...guess I shoulda bought a few, huh? 0 -
