1873 winchester 1873 38-40

I have a third model 1873 winchester sporting rifle, not carbine. It has a round barrel and was made right around 1885. I want to know what the original sights looked like or where I could find them.

    Hello Ian,

    There were numerous different front sights used by Winchester for the Model 1873, with one basic style of rear sight. The most common front sight is the "sporting front sight", but the Rocky Mountain Sporting, the Knife Blade, and the Beach Combination were also used. I will suggest that you peruse the many Model 1873s that are listed in the Gunbroker auctions.

    As for finding the sights, there are several dealers around the country that have them, but they will not be cheap. To buy a decent condition sporting front and rear sight (with the correct elevator), you should figure on spending at least $300.

    Do you know how to use the search function? There are lots of available pictures in the auctions if you take the time to look for them.
