Colt Woodsman compensator question.
Was a muzzle compensator option ever offered from Colt, I saw a second generation Woodsman yesterday with a short compensator on it. The owner said he believed it was a factory modification. It is a very short one, possibly screw on, with a single slash style hole on the top. A search through the forums produced nothing and I wasn't smart enough to snap a picture of it yesterday. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks Rufe, it was a standard round / tapered barrel.

If none of our folks can help you. You might do a search on our members tab for the poster who uses the screen name of Judge Colt. He is a long time collector and quite knowledgeable about the various Woodsman. As he isn't on here all the time, drop him a e-mail.
Personality I don't recall seeing a second issue Woodsman with a comp. Which version of the Woodsman was it, the Match Target or standard barrel?0 -
After contact by personal email, I made the following reply to Jeepflexin, which I repeat here in case anyone else is interested:
As far as I know, Colt never offered any factory muzzle brake device for any pistol or revolver. There are some experimental pistols with muzzle brakes that Colt made in the 1950s or 1960s, but they never went production. I believe they were sold by Colt at a factory auction, but the pictures I have seen do not sound like the muzzle brake you saw so I doubt if you saw one of those pistols. To see pictures of the experimental Match Target Colts with muzzle brakes, look at Pages 458 and 464 of "The Book of Colt Firearms."
Sorry I cannot be of more help.0
