Krupp Stahl Mauser
I am trying to figure out what Caliber it is.
Its the only one in my fathers FN collection that I do not know.
It has Krupp Stahl 6.08 520 17228 on the Barrel, it is octagon half way up the barrel.
On the receiver it has 275g G.B.P. N St.M.G.
I think it is a 8x57 or 9x57 by the 275g
The bases were molded into the receiver, with a Quick Detach Rings and Mauser scope.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best to have a Gunsmith do a chamber cast to determine the correct cartridge. If the bullet weight in Grams is 27,5 this would be in the neighborhood of 400 grains, which would be a way heavier bullet then a 9 X 57 Mauser cartridge would have. There are very few metric cartridges that have that heavy of a bullet. The only one that is at all likely is the 404 Jeffery which was a very popular African hunting cartridge for large game.
Post quality close-up photos of the rifle and all it's markings. It's possible more information might be gleaned from the photos.0 -
Krupp Stahl just means the barrel was made out of Krupp brand steel; nothing to do with the actual manufacturer. 0
