460 S&W Rifle

I would like to have a rifle chambered for the 460 S&W. My first thought was the marlin 450 except it wont withstand the pressure (65000psi). Secondly I like the idea of a short brush gun is why i was thinking of the marlin. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or maybe its just a wild pipe dream

    Might check into rechambering a 45 colt handi rifle and see if they withstand the extra pressure

    TC makes a barrel for the Encore in 460. That's probably the easiest way to get a rifle in that cartridge.

    Legal liability is a big factor in the firearms business nowadays, with all the bottom feeding lawyers looking to sue anybody with deep pockets.

    If 65000 psi is the actual working pressure for the .460 S & W you might have a tough time geting any knowledgeable gunsmith to rechamber anything for it. As the 460 S & W case is merely a 45 Long Colt case that has been lengthened and reinforced, most any single shot chambered for the 45 Long Colt could be easily rechambered for it.

    rdbradley---Several months back, there was a Rem. 7 here on GB that had been rebarreled/rechambered to the .460. As I recall the head dia. on the 460 is very close to the SAUM family. I almost bought it.

    I could swear that H&R makes a Handi-Rifle in .460 S&W, but I could be wrong on that. They do make one in .500 S&W.

    You don't need to go to the trouble of making a custom gun unless you want to. Ruger makes their #1 in .460 S&W http://ruger.com/products/no1MediumSporter/models.html
    They also offer it in .475 Linebaugh/.480 Ruger

    Check Big Horn Armory. He recently developed a 500 S&W lever gun of his own design and was working on a 460 when I talked to him in June of '10. really nice looking gun in my estimation. The other option would be Jim West of Wild West Guns in Anchorage. Jim makes reinforced Marlin 1895's in 450 Alaskan and 457 wild west magnum, either of which is a good deal stouter than the 460. Best of luck...sound like a fun project!
