R25 platform will be around long after the FN is discontinued.

The Remington R25, or the DPMS LR series...same rifle.

I'd look at the LAR8 since it uses cheap and common metric FAL mags.

In the price range, I'd also look at a FAL.

The DPMS while being lighter then the remington offers good portability and handeling. The gas system length/barrel ratio is conductive to smooth shooting and reliability.. the muzzle brake works, so recoil is more then managable, The heavy bolt group of LR30 is probably the weakest link in the design, there is a hole lot of stress on the bolt, bolt catch and bolt stop. accuracy is good.

The D.S. Arms FAL carbine shoots smooth. It gives a smooth push of a recoil impulse, further reduced by the shorter barrel. it will take dust and grit and mud better then the LR-30, but it sacrifices some accuracy to do it. the sight radious is long and the sights are good, DSA also sells the best FAL picatinny scope mount on the market, so if you want it scoped its as simple as removing the top cover and bolting on the picatinny replacement.

All in all its a very nice rifle, and a dang good deal for 1200.00
