S&W model 19 Serial number

I just bought a used model 19 with square grip and 2" barrel. It shoots great!

My question the butt serial number starts with AATxxxx. Seems like a strange code, is this an agency number?

  Thanks, I noticed inside the frame (with the cylinder opened) is E17 with xxxxx 5 totally different numbers than on the butt.
