FNAR vs M1A1

I am looking to purchase either a M1A1 or FNAR for a little target shooting but mostly hunting. I would like some opinions on which would be the better rifle for my needs.

    The target versions of the M1A are quite heavy for humping around in the brush. For target they are excellent rifles, I had a "loaded" version with the heavy stainless barrel and was quite impressed. For hunting I would suggest a good sporter weight bolt gun in the caliber you believe will be best for the intended game. I don't have any experience with the FNAR.

    I would not recommend the M1A for hunting purposes. The .308 Winchester round is not for use in the rifle, primers are too sensitive. Round could go off when cycling before fully chambered. Bad Thing. 7.62 NATO is what the Rifle shoots, and you don't see many in anything other than Full Metal Jacket. After all it is a Military round and I believe hollow points are banned on the battlefield.

    Thanks, I didnt know the M1 wouldnt shoot regular 308 ammo safely. That pretty much narrows it down to the FNAR.

    I assume you mean M1A and not M1A1.

    And if you check Springfield's site, you will see commercial 308 ammo is fine. Just don't go over 175 gr bullets.

    Get the M14 clone.
