was wondering what kind of cleaning solvent is the best for cleaning the rifle barrel? what is your favorite kind. thanks

I don't think there is such a thing as "the best".
There are a number of good products out there, and much of this depends on what exactly you're trying to clean.
For example, ammonia-based solvents are good for cleaning out copper deposits from jacketed bullets.
Traditionally, water or ammonia based solvents are good for cleaning out corrosive primer residue (eg from military surplus ammo).
Pretty much any standard gun cleaner should get out ordinary powder-based fouling, etc.0 -

I agree that there is probably no best because there are so many excellent products to choose from.My favorite is Sweets and JB paste. 0 -

I sell a lot of the Pro Shot copper solvent. Few of my customers call their solvent "panther piss" because it's yellow, and removes all the copper from a bore!
Of course, an old standby is the Hoppe's #9 solvent.0 -

A vote for Bore Tech Eliminator...best stuff I have seen in years. Doesn't smell bad and does a wipe out job on copper fouling. I also use Sweets 7.62 on my mil surps (it is aggressive and care should be taken)and am a huge fan of "USP Bore paste for several different cleaning and break-in jobs. 0 -
Don't forget about ballistol and Hoppe's Elite ... I use sweets on my ak and a little paste on my stainless revolver after cleaning it... Guns seem easier to clean if ballistol has penetrated the pores of the gun...... It's not a petroleum product so sum ballistol and water makes MOOSE MILK, at least that what my friend's dad calls it :::I'm sold 0
