The conditions are night and day in comparison. That's where I'm having a problem, trying to figure out the value of this one. Should I just double the price of what that one sold for? 0 -
If you're going to sell it on Gunbroker.com you don't need to know the value.The winning bidder will tell you that.A low starting bid and a no reserve auction will bring every cent that fantastic gun is "worth". 0 -
Your photos are pretty good, but not really good enough to tell if it is original or a restoration. (Yes, there are some excellent restorations out there, as well as fakes.) Whatever you have in mind, a set of high quality, well lit, close ups of the gun are needed. With a high dollar item like this, it would be a good idea to hire a professional photographer. (Many wedding photographers are also trained in studio work.)
You really can't estimate the value of a scarce gun based on the sale price of one in lesser condition. The high end auction houses (Rock Island Auctions, Little Johns) may have records of similar guns that they sold, & I am sure that they will be glad to give you an estimate if you have high quality photos.
The bottom line is, with scarce items, no one can estimate the real value with any certainty.

EDIT: Just another thought. You didn't say where you live, but the Maryland Arms Collectors Assoc. has their annual show every March; it is attended by many of the top dealers & collectors in the country, & the Colt Collectors Assoc. always has a table. If you can bring your gun there......

Of course, they would have to check the chamber to be sure it's clear before allowing you to bring a gun into a show; plus, any expert performing a "hands on" exam will do the same. Just ask to have the slide retracted only enough to permit the exam, not the usual "locked open".0 -

That Pistol is amazing & would be the centerpiece of any COLLECTION. The only thing missing is a Track of who the pistol was issued to and how it arrived at it's current owner. I had much rather have this pistol then the one Colt just auctioned off as the 100 year Gun .The only thing better would be NUMBER ONE. 0 -

We called Colt and requested the letter of authenticity. It will take 120 days to receive their findings.
As for the Redding Auction, yes, we did buy it there but we spent a little less for it than the Colt 1911 that sold October 2010 on this site and that Colt was not in nearly as good condition as ours. Which is why we're asking this forum for the realistic value of the gun.
I checked the Baltimore show website and unfortunately their cut-off date is 1898. Another concern we have about bringing it to a show is that they would have to rack it before we could bring the gun in, one thing we're trying to avoid.

All colt will tell you on military pistols is it was one of a shipment shipped OCT 5 1912 Brooklyn NAVY YARDS . You could have saved your money. and Military records most likely don't exist [:(] Sorry I have been through this myself a number of times. 0 -
