Colt Scout Commemorative

I need sugestions on rust pitting on the frame of this little Colt 22. Looks like someone left the revolver in the presention case for a very long time and some how moisture got in and rusted the frame real bad. Frame is real pitted even to the point of almost rusting the serial # away. Just one bad spot on the ejector rod, rest of the blueing is fine. I bought this revolver as a shooter but I was hoping someone would have a suggestion on how to make the frame look better, looks like someone has buffed the frame so no active rust now, but I would just like it to look a little better. Need some way to add the brown spots back (case harding look) to the frame.

    There's really no practical way to restore steel that has rusted away. (The impractical way is to pay a professional restorer, but that would cost $1,000 + up.)

    The best way to cover damage would be to paint the entire gun with one of the spray-on finishes, available from Brownells.

    If the SN has been partially obscured due to rust/corrosion, it's usually easy enough to get permission from ATF to restamp it. If the frame buffing you described is the place where the SN is, you may have a legal problem which it would be best to discuss with ATF before you do anything else.

    If that's a Colt Scout and not a Peacemaker, it has an alloy frame. It was never casehardened.

    I was wrong it must be a Peacemaker, Its a Arizona Ranger Commemorative, what was a very nice revolver that someone treated very bad. I doubt that there is anything that can be done to make the case harding look better.

    Yep, the 1972 Arizona Rangers Commemorative was built on a case-hardened "Peacemaker" frame. The 1963 Arizona Centennial was an alloy-framed Colt Scout.

    Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about restoring the case colors outside of sending it to Doug Turnbull Restorations but the cost would far outweigh its value.
