Winchester 1894 Half Oct/round

On an early 1900s 1894 rifle, what is the general impression of the half octagon half round barrels? I know it would be considered special order, but is it much more collectible, or desirable, than a standard rifle? If a standard rifle, in same condition, was about $2,000, what premium would you put on the half/half?

  The half, and half barrels are special order. In just normal run of the mill condition, don't command a lot of extra $$ over the standard rifle. However, it is usually not just the barrel, it is a host of other special add ons, like fancy wood, checkered wood, set trigger's, sling swivels, etc..., that all add up. Also, it is more the condition, and if the rifle letter's, and of course the higher the condition, the more $$. The higher the condition, the higher the differential $$ between a round, octagon, and half and half.

  Actually, the 1/2 octagon barrel was not a "special" order. Instead, it was an "optional" feature. For the Model 1894 Sporting Rifle, a 26-inch round barrel was always standard, with the octagon and 1/2 octagon barrels being no cost optional orders.
  
  In the Winchester collecting community, the 1/2 octagon barrel is slightly more desirable than the full octagon barrel, just as the full octagon barrel is more desirable than the round barrel. That said, not all collectors place a premium on the 1/2 octagon barrel. In my experience, the 1/2 octagon barrel adds no more than 10% to the value.
