Israeli Mauser

A few years back I bought an Israeli "converted to 7.62 NATO" K98 Mauser - promptly stuffed it away and haven't looked at it since. I decided to give it to a friend and in doing so have done a bit of a clean up. The gun works fine, the metal work needs cleaning but the stock is a disaster - a combination of cracked and rotted and soaked black with cosmoline or something. Checking Numrich I was surprised to see very little in stock.

Two questions - first, I presume the stock I'm looking for, if not specifically listed as an "Israeli Mauser" would be a K98 Mauser and 2nd - any online sources other than Numrich?

    I suppose ideally you'd want an Israeli marked stock, but finding one in usable condition is going to be REAL hard (if not impossible). These guns weren't babied, they were used hard in combat when Israel was a young nation and desperate for arms. Most of them are pretty worn on the outside.

    (And yeah, it pretty ironic that a nation formed in the wake of the Nazi Holocaust used Nazi-produced rifles to defend itself).

    Barring that, yes, you want a K98 Mauser stock. They do turn up from time to time on the auction site here. I've actually seen one listed on Ebay before. There are probably other places you could find one (eg gun shows, etc). I don't know if there are any reproductions made, but I suppose its possible.

    If you didn't care about retaining its original look there are aftermarket K98 stocks available, and you could get one in pretty much any configuration you liked.
