thanks, I had my doubts. would it have necessary for them to trim the stock to get a good fit? it is an original winchester pad?

More than likely the stock was trimmed to install the pad. We can not see the pad, so there is no possible way to answer your last question.

I suspect someone bought a SUPER GRADE stock and installed your 243 barreled action in this stock. I cant believe anyone was so timid about recoil that they would need a pad on a 243.....

What is serial of gun? What kind of cheek piece is it (there are 3 variations )? Is the front sight a solid brass pin? Photos would really tell the story.

it is auction #213886962. hopefully you can still pull it up. I did not get an answer to my questions before I bid. I left him an email disclaiming my bid if it wasn't original and I haven't gotten a response yet. Hopefully you can still pull it up and tell me what you think. It looks like the correct Monte Carlo stock, but it is not a brass front bead.

Stock is right shape for year, cut and poorly fitted pad. Stock completly rifinished.....besides that who knows, they are easy to fake.

I'm with Tod, there is a cottage industry involved in production of super grade pre 64s. Some are very good, this one's not.
It's a buyer beware. Read and study, knowledge is your best friend.

thanks guys, Before I placed my bid I had my suspicions and told him I would not accept it if it wasn't original. You helped me save money and time on shipping. thanks
