electronic bore cleaner - how long
hello;
used a home made electronic (uses 2 "d" cell bat.) bore cleaner to clean an old mil surp rifle barrel.
ran it for 40 min. barrel cleaned up good but there is still some residual copper on the lands.
is it harm full to run another 40 to try and get rid of the residual copper still in the barrel?? thanks for any input.

Not sure about your homemade piece. I have a outters unit that I have left in for cpl days and never had problem. Im not benchrest shooter but I am demanding accuracy wise. I did see article on mauser site about homemade unti such as yours. Only thing that bothered me was idea of using ammonia in my guns. 0 -
I know that Outers CopOut won't do any damage at two hours, don't know about over night though.
I Do know that ammonia will ruin a barrel after several hours. Not sure how long, 'cause I started it at 10:00pm and pulled it at 7:15am. Just glad it was a pulled milsurp barrel of unknown merit.0 -
Outters recomends not to use overnight. Also to change the fluid when it gets dirty (usualy after about an hour or two) I had an old .300 win mag that took about 14hrs. to come clean with my outters system changing the fluid and cleaning the rod every two hrs. I use it for my lead eating .45 and it has actually made the barrel smoother. Only way to go. 0 -
I used a similar setup using D-cells and a mixture of ammonia, water & vinegar on a Savage .204 Ruger that was a copper mine. I did it twice and then also plugged the muzzle and soaked overnite w/Hoppes Copper Remover. Finally got it all out until the next time it was used.
There was a problem with the barrel that after 25-30 rounds, the bullets would keyhole. Before replacing the barrel, I cleaned it again and then shot 8 rounds of Tubbs Final Finish, cleaned it, and then shot 30 rds.
I have also run a patch of ammonia thru the bore to verify it was clean and then followed with patches of bore cleaner and then dry patches.
So far, no problem.0
