Original Colt Handcuffs
Well i recently signed up for the Army and i am going through my dads stuff and we are moving and have to downsize alot, im selling multiple guns and also i came across this pair of Original Colt Stamped Handcuffs, It also had one original key and the original instructions. Could anyone give me more information on this and just an extra bit of information they are double locking and i cannot find the year

Handcuffs are generally not stamped with a year and I doubt records are kept by serial number like firearms. I can say that Colt did not make handcuffs very long and those are probably worth around $150 now. 0 -
Colt offered handcuffs in the 1970's. Are yours marked "Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co./Hartford Ct. U.S.A." and have the "Rampant Colt" logo? Check the instructions for a printing date. 0 -
the stamp on the cuffs says
COLT'S PT.F.A MFG.CO
HARTFORD,CT. U.S.A.
And yes they have the jumping horse stamp and i checked and there is no date on the instructions its like 3 pictures and the warranty is all.0 -
I've been in Law Enforcement, full time, since 1972 and I have NEVER seen a pair of Colt handcuffs. I've heard of 'em, but never seen 'em. With as many cuffs as I have seen over the years, the Colt's must be very rare. Hang on to them. 0 -
Colt handcuffs bring substantial prices on the auction sites. They were offered in nickel beginning in about 1970, and were discontinued a few years later. I have a blued set, but, without checking my Colt catalog collection, I cannot say when the blue finish was introduced. 0 -

They look similar to my Peerless handcuffs. They use the exact same key, too. Maybe Peerless made them for Colt.
New in box might bring in the $300 range but, in their present condition, I think Lefty's estimate of around $150 is about right.

they may have, the only major difference i see is that the key location is placed to the side more. I may keep them just because their a cool little thing that does not take up much space. I am going to try to keep as many guns and such as i can. I have 4 Bayonets sitting beside me at the moment i plan on keeping haha i think their all worth around 300 or so. Hopefully i get around to cleaning out my gun closet and if i do i will post a list of all the guns and ammo i have it is a decent size list. 0 -
Here's set I bought around 1970-72, the most remarkable thing about Colt cuffs is that the ratcheting is as smooth as my python, unbelievable,they just fall over the wrist. Over the years, 32+ as a cop having met probably well over 15,000 others, I never met someone who had Colt cuffs. 1 guy said he did but never showed them.

Colt handcuffs were made by Colt, not Peerless. I have several sets of Peerless and Smith & Wesson cuffs I have used over the years. Colt, Peerless and Smith & Wesson cuffs all use the same key. I have encountered Colt cuffs in the past but have not owned a set. 0
