Hey folks. Found this in storage and was wondering if someone could help me discerning what this is. I see the RA on the buttstock and I can verrrrrrrrrry faintly see a 'Remington Arms' etc... on the barrel. Doesn't say gauge but I assume it's 12.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Remington sold Russian Baikal shotguns for awhile, under the Spartan Gunworks name. I believe the model you have came and went pretty quickly. Whatever the reason, that wouldn't be a positive as far as value is concerned. Your Spartan Model 453 being a orphan, my WAG it would probably be in the $250-$350 range unless you could come up with some guy who just fell off a Turnip wagon, and just had to have it.

Does anyone know if i can get a shorter barrel for it the one on it now is way longer than i prefer. Could I shorthen the barrel myself without breaking any laws?

As far as the feds are concerned 18" is legal for shotguns. Many folks cut them down. All it takes is a hack saw, or a pipe cutter if you want to make a neat job. Use duct tape as a guide to clean up the cut edge when smoothing it up with a fine cut file.
