Hog hunting with a knife

Did anyone else see that show on tv where the guy in hawaii goes hunting hogs? They have some dogs that grab em and then he and the guide both stuck them with knives. WOW thats gotta be a rush.

    the outfitter i hunted with in south carolina a couple of years ago had the same hunt he would turn loose the dogs and then when the hog was cornered you would go in for the kill hank k

    I hunted hogs on the King ranch that way but i have to admit that the first couple of hogs made me a little nervous.

    The wild hogs in the south, and probably elswhere are easy to hunt, especially with dogs. Guys I know in Florida hunt them with dogs. The dogs pin the hog down, the hunter grabs the hogs back legs, and basically drives him out of the woods like a wheelburro. They say they are defenseless once you got their hind legs. Not something I want to try though. One happens to get loose whern you are driving him out of the woods, he is going to be some PISSED!

    Hunted with some guys in southern OK a couple of years ago. They used dogs to catch them & either jumped on to stick them or tied them up & sold them to game farms.

    I know of several youngsters in my area who hunt them without a gun or knife, just dogs and horses.

    They let the dogs run them until the hog is worn down to the point where all they can do is flatten out on the ground and snap at the dogs in front of them. One guy then approaches from behind and yanks both back legs up into the air, which basically immobolizes it. Once this is done another guy ties the legs together, then they use a horse to drag it out to their traile.

    It varies, but these are sometimes long snouted, reddish backed Russian cross breds.

    The idea is to pen the critter up, feed them out on corn for a week or so to fatten them a bit, then sell them to processing plants that market wild boar to restaurants.

    I don't know current market prices, but a few years ago they brought something like 75 cents a pound on the hoof. Not enough to make a living on, but it's walking around money for teenage boys.

    On a job site in Hattiesberg Mississippi, I was working with a guy who had dogs that pinned them down, he would then go in and tie them up.
    He took them home and fed them out on grain for awhile, then he would have hog roasts, usually for some local charity.
    It was great stuff!!
    Pretty neat, he had kevlar vests for the dogs, also had a small vet kit he carried for stiching up wounds etc.
