The best advice I can give you is three-fold:
1) Never buy an antique or vintage Colt or other firearm without getting good advice from someone who knows about them. The only exception is if you are at a gun show and dealing with a major dealer with a reputation for integrity, such as Herb Glass, Jr. or Vinnie Caponi, etc.
2. For every gun you buy, you should try to buy a book about it and read it. By studying the guns you are interested in, it lessens the chances of you "getting took" in a gun deal. Unfortunately there are a lot of sharpies out there.
3. After you buy your gun and your book, start saving for your next one!

beside fancy grades what is the most sought after gun out there be it handgun ,rifle or shotgun one that everyone is looking for? 0 -
What ever it is, it will either say Winchester, or Colt on it.

I meant in general of the PRE-WWII era, high condition, all original Colt, and Winchester's. I would imagine that if one ever stumbled upon an all original Walker in 90% or better condition, that the selling price would be above 7 digits...and there is how many of then unaccounted for?

Have to agree, in general, with tsr on the Colt/Winchester.
If you're considering an investment purchase, however, remember that not all Colts and Winchesters qualify! Also that condition, originality of all parts and individual history also play a huge role.

Older Winchester Rifles in 90%+ Condition seem to do very well. Old Colt SAA's, and 1911's in fine+ condition seem to be about the most sought after and most expensive area. Garands also have a good following.
Origininality, condition and rarity seem to be underlying theme of a good collection.0 -
Banner Mausers (especially the 30's DRP and DRB guns)will always be good performers. With the coming of the centennial of the Great War, look for those guns and accessories to take off in price as well. This is also the centennial of the JMB masterpiece 1911...early guns will command a premium. 0 -
