1954 colt .357 Mag.

Any body know how much my 1954 .357 Mag is worth? The serial # is on the low end at 3950. with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. Sweet nice mint Gun. I love shooting this gun.

    What I'm trying to say is, we need a lot more information and pictures to give you a reasonable estimate of the value.

    If you've been shooting it, its no longer in mint condition. I'd say $500 tops.

    If it has been shot, it can still be in MINT condition...just not NIB condition.

    Perhaps it's not a Colt, what if it's a Registered S&W, or a early Ruger Flattop?

    The Colt .357 model did not come with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. The Colt Single Action Army model in .357 Magnum caliber came with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. Both were in production in 1954. Which model do you have? If you can accurately describe the percentage of original finish remaining and describe any defects an approximation of the value can be determined. I would agree with the herd that photos are best.

    So long as you care for it carefully, a gun can be well-used and still be in 99%+ condition. Maybe technically that's not "mint" but its pretty close.

    I can't give a price on this because we don't actually know the exact model (Colt Python was introduced in 1955, for example), but I think its fair to say that *ANY* Colt .357 magnum revolver from 1954 in 98%+ condition is likely to be worth over $500, and possibly even quite a bit more.

    The Colt "357" didn't come with a 7.5" bbl, it came with a 6" bbl. Given the serial number it's a very early 1954, if your version of mint means "like new, no box" and must have original grips I'd say about $800.00. If the original grips are gone, they're expensive as hell and hard to find.

    If it is the Trooper the same applies, but is worth less by about $250.00. The rollmark on the barrel of the "357" model would have those numbers very large as opposed to the rest of the mark.

    That's my absolutely for free, take it FWIW guess. The 357 is more sought after than the OM Trooper and the OMM of the same era. A very nice revolver.
